OF LIVING
In September 2009, I was walking with my brother José Antonio through our vineyards in Laguardia when we stopped to watch how the last rays of sunshine were beating down on the ripe grapes in our Finca Ratón vineyard. Jose Antonio picked a bunch and we ate the fruit. The delicious taste of the grapes immediately inspired the same thought in both of us: “Why don’t we make a wine from this vineyard?”
The grapes were in excellent condition with small, healthy grains, so we decided to harvest them separately. The wine was made in stainless steel vats and its malolactic fermentation took place in new, medium- to intense-toasted French Allier oak casks for 12 months, followed by 24 months’ ageing in the bottle to round off a perfect wine that was christened ‘Finca Ratón’.
VINEYARD: Finca Ratón vineyard, goblet-pruned, south-facing, on somewhat stony, rain-fed, calcareous clay soil.
All our work in the field is completely respectful with the Environment. Fertilising with sheep manure maintains the soil’s physical-chemical properties and characteristics.
