Finca ratón
The uniqueness of aged vines and high-quality grapes

Rioja D.O.C.*1, District: Rioja Alavesa
The goblet-pruned Finca Raton vineyard is southward facing and stands on dry, somewhat stony calcareous-clay soil within the municipal boundaries of Laguardia. The Tempranillo grapes from these wholly owned, 65-year-old vines are fertilised exclusively with sheep manure to maintain the physical-chemical properties of the soil and harvested by hand.
Mediterranean climate with Atlantic influence which varies extremely between summer and winter.
Annual rainfall: 400 litres.
Selected grapes in optimal conditions with healthy and small berries, harvested by hand. They initially ferment in stainless steel tanks before being drawn into new French Allier oak barrels with a medium-intense aroma for malolactic fermentation prior to 12 months’ ageing. In the final stage, the wine is rounded off in the bottle for 24 months.
A clean wine with an intense cherry-red colour and a ruby rim. On the nose, it has a complex aroma with hints of ripe berries and notes of vanilla and liquorice. In the mouth, it is broad, meaty and structured, ending with an elegant and well-balanced bouquet.
It makes a perfect accompaniment to steaks, cutlets, game meats or highly aged cheeses.
One evening back in 2009, as the last rays of sunlight embraced the ripe grapes in the vineyard, Ana and Jose Antonio Gómez de Segura took the decision to produce this special wine, in view of the exclusive character of these grapes compared to the rest.
